Ikalto Micro Art Residence is a small artist house and creative residency in Tbilisi, Sakartvelo (Georgia), welcoming curious people who seek meaningful encounters through music, art, and everyday life. A home for musicians, artists, travelers, and anyone drawn to places with character.
Work of faith and devotion
Founded in 2018, we are an independent artist-run residency, recording studio, and venue dedicated to free improvisation, experiments, and multidisciplinary artistic irresponsibility: the belief that art needs freedom more than justification.
Since day one, we have been the only venue in Tbilisi where people can listen to unconventional music with terrific sound quality. During the 2020 lockdown, when public gatherings were limited and most cultural venues became unable to operate, Ikalto Micro Art Residence continued its activities within the permitted restrictions. While many spaces had to pause their programs due to economic realities, we chose to preserve a place for artistic exchange, welcoming small audiences and continuing our exploration.
“While attending and participating in experimental music shows around the world, I could not help noticing that not only are those events underground by spirit but the very locations are not lush at all. It’s the least money engaged in the most daring art. Experiments are challenging in all possible meanings. I invested a lot to give improvised and experimental music some sort of elite status which that music truly deserves.”
“I was looking for a music residency
with professional environment,
but most residencies offered bare walls to paint and dance in,
and they expected proposals, social projects, public engagement and measurable outcomes.
Ikalto Micro Art Residence was built as an alternative.”
